While Big B, as Amitabh Bachchan is popularly known, is most remembered for his roles as ‘the angry young man’ he is also remembered for his good comic timing. Several of his comic scenes in different movies over the years have been testament to this. Here’s a look at his three comic roles.
- Amar Akbar Anthony – 1977
Amar Akbar Anthony is one of Amitabh Bachchan’s most loved roles. While there were several funny moments in the movie, the scene where a drunk Anthony dresses his wounds in front of a mirror is by far the most memorable and his comic expressions in the song – My name is Anthony Gonzalves, come a close second.
2. Satte Pe Satta – 1982
Satte Pe Satta had funny moments throughout the movie with seven unruly band of brothers bickering at the drop of a hat. Eldest brother, played by Amitabh, has several comic situations with him trying to woo his lady love and later bringing her to his chaotic all men household as his wife.
3. Bade Miya Chote Miya – 1998
Bade Miya Chote Miya, a David Dhawan film, did well at the box office despite being mostly slap-stick humor. Amitabh’s uninhibited portrayal of a common conman, complete with garish costumes and loud dialogues, managed to elicit several laughs even from slap-stick jokes that the movie was full of. Amitabh and Govinda played a double role in the movie and complemented each other’s performance and comic timing.
4. Piku – 2015
Amitabh Bachchan plays an elderly Bengali father obsessed with his bowel movement. It starred Deepika Padukone as his long-suffering daughter. and Irrfan Khan in the lead roles too. The quirky comedy gained a lot of appreciation from the industry.
5. 102 Not Out – 2018
Amitabh Bachchan plays father to a cantankerous Rishi Kapoor in this comedy-drama directed by Umesh Shukla. Although not a commercial success, the movie was appreciated by a particular section of the cine goers.
